The tourist information office ‘les amis du Mont-Cassel”(The Mont-Cassel’s friends)was created in 1921.The first aim of the association was to promote rented accommodations in Cassel. Even if the targeted clients lived in Lille, documents written in English were created in 1928.
In 1947, the association bought a tumbledown windmill and brought it back to Cassel. It has been turned into a museum since 1949. At the same time the association contributed to the openings of the museum of Cassel and another one dedicated to General Foch(who was in Cassel during the battle of Ypres during World War I)
The tourist information office became a tourism office(change of status) in 1989. An office has been opened every day to receive tourists.
A partnership with the community of rural districts of the « Pays de Cassel » started in 1996. The tourism Office has become intermunicipal.
