Located in the Peene valley, this village knew the destruction of its former church of Romanesque inspiration. There is only a statue of Saint Roch left. It is stored in the current building of neo-Gothic inspiration which dates from 1888.
There are only some relics left of the former seigniorial manor, located one kilometer far away from the village in the north-west. The name of a famous family who lived there between the 14th and the 17th centuries is still linked to this place. One of its members, Pierre Van Zuytpeene, an erudite person and man of letters from the Renaissance, was the correspondent of Erasmus, who was proud of their friendship./
Near the Cassel street, an obelisk reminds the battle which took place, on April 11, 1677, on the banks of Peene Becque. This battle was decisive to attach the lordship of Cassel to France. This was the case of the lordships of Aire-sur-la-Lys and Saint-Omer. This was confirmed by the treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle in 1678.
In the south of the common land, the ledge of Houtland offers all along the numerous roads and lanes, wooded places and vast panoramas.
